  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- One of my favorite authors. : These books are such a lovely respite from the world as it is these days. Covid, Trump, Horrors around the world and here in the U.S. I have read most if this man's beautiful books into the night, often, they are so lovely and the stories make one empathize, laugh out loud, weep, sing along, devour, delight in and ache for more. Such educational fare, seamlessly woven into these manuscripts, of Medical conditions and treatments that one tells smarter after reading about them. So much relative to today but told in such a compelling and intelligent look into our recent and even ancient past that we realize history does so often repeat itself. I love the prose, the poetry, the sensitivity, and thoughtfulness with which these books are written. A calm sea to visit in the midst of a turbulent world. So truly wonderful. A treat to be sacked like a set dessert or a fine wine. I love, really love, All Mr. Taylor's book. All his characters ...I mean Alk, are people I wish I knew...illustrative of some I have known in my own life far away from Ballybucklebo! I recommend them with my whole heart. Thank you, Patrick Taylor. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from WaNana -- Patrick Taylor's stories bring joy to our household. : We've been reading aloud the Irish Country series for years... own all 16 books. When telling others about this series, I've compared it to James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small...except that the doctors care for humans rather than animals. Taylor brings to life charming, enticing characters; environment descriptions that "take you there"; relationships in the community that are utterly believable. We hope Taylor will never stop writing this series, unrealistic to be sure but addictions are hard to break! This is a healthy addiction. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Susie Q. -- Disappointed! : I have read every one of Patrick Taylor’s Irish doctor books…savoring each and every one. As someone else said, the wholesomeness gives peace and respite (I read the bulk of the series during the worst of the pandemic). I love the timeframe and the character development. This “novella” however was terrible! Almost like someone else took Mr. Taylor’s book notes and tried to copy his style. I don’t understand going back in time at all. Why not a Christmas novella after Barry and Sue’s baby is born? None of the characters sounded authentic and it seemed written for newbies, not seasoned readers of the series. I do hope the series continues, as it makes me truly happy to immerse myself in these books. But please, don’t cheat your loyal fans again! ( Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Joan Casey -- Christmas traditions : This book brought back wonderful memories of childhood Christmases with my own English family. The traditions are the same. The simplicity of the celebrations in Ballybucklebo and the joy felt by the participants brought tears to my eyes. The story of preserving little Jill’s faith in Santa was especially moving. I love that Arthur Guinness and Lady Macbeth share in the festivities and that Kinky, Archie and Barry Laverty are part of the family. And I especially love the care and kindness shown by and to everyone. Thank you for a great read. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from boguman -- So disappointed... : I love Mr. Taylor's books. My favorite part is sitting down to read and getting engrossed in a story that takes me away for a few hours. I feel part of that litte Irish village. I know the people and feel like I want to be their friend. I know how pathetic that sounds. With this book, I felt cheated. The book itself is tiny and the story is very short. It was finished well before an hour and a half had passed. From now on, I'll read the description. It can't be easy writing these stories, but I was crushed when I saw this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Avid Reader -- A Disappointment : This book was a real disappointment. I wasn't as disappointed about the length of the book as I was about the content. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- It Will Give Nostalgic Christmas : That's your warning if you can't deal with those feelings. Lots of traditional food and activities. The cast of characters we all have learned to love and expect. This year of pandemic 2021, many will have empty seats or not able to join family. This story may help. A great community of friends, the wise Dr. Very nice like seeing that once a year treat on the table. Please do read it , I'm sure you will enjoy it. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mark W Burgett -- Another Patrick Taylor Masterpiece : A great storyteller, it is a pleasurable, touching holiday season read by Patrick Taylor. It is full of familiar Irish Country characters and the relationships they all ( Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from the1andonly -- Disappointing : Owning the entire series, I wish I'd read the American reviews before letting my pre-order happen. Would have preferred him to continue the plot line on from An Irish Country Welcome as I want to know what happens to Helen and Jack. At least I assumed from the Amazon blurb that Fingal would be looking back to Xmas 1965 from the "present" of AICW. Also, an increasing irritation as the series progresses are failures in copy editing. In the past I have even noticed characters being given the wrong surname, and in this novella, there is a spelling mistake on page 56, "discretely" instead of "discreetly." Unless this is a North American peculiarity ... perhaps it is time for Dr Taylor to call a halt instead of turning out publications like this. The story was OK though. • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Greentimbers -- The book is very small in size, not what I expected ! : This book is very small in size. I have all of the other novels in hardcover and it is not the same at all. It looks stupid sitting on the shelf with all of the other books in the series. And another thing about it, the dust cover feels like it is made of some type of plastic, whereas all of the others have a nice paper jacket. Very disappointed with the physical aspects of this book. I can't comment on the content as I have not read it yet. ( Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from JEG -- Ballybucklebo : I am a Huge Patrick Taylor fan. His stories about Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly and the people of Ballybucklebo brings tears and laughter with each story he creates. I have collected all his books and continue looking for more. May Patrick Taylor never give Fingal up. It warms the Irish heart to read these stories. ( Reviewed in Canada on November 17, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Very disappointed! : very disappointed with this book. mostly just pieces taken from his other books & doesn't feel like the authors usual writing of his irish country books. I preordered this book and was so looking forward to Mr. Taylors newest book in this collection but was extremely let down! ( Reviewed in Canada on October 22, 2021 )
